Three findings · from ten minutes on the live site

Three specific things, in order of revenue impact.

Cymraeg shop for 52 years, generic Shopify Dawn template. The heritage does not appear above the fold.

What I saw: siopypentan.co.uk runs the default Shopify Dawn theme. The homepage opens with a product grid (cards, lovespoons, books) and a footer line "Sefydlwyd 1972." There is no above-the-fold mention of the 52-year heritage, no panel naming the Carmarthen Market location, no Welsh-language identity beyond the product titles. A first-time visitor sees the same template as ten thousand other UK Shopify shops.
What the rebuild does: The rebuild opens with a typographic hero in slate + cathedral saffron + vellum cream, naming the shop as Carmarthen Market's Welsh-language gift and book shop since 1972. Cymraeg phrases sit alongside the English. The product grid moves below the heritage and category panels. A visitor lands on a shop that reads as Welsh, in Welsh, in Carmarthen, before any product card loads.

926 KB page weight on a phone, Shopify-default fonts, Welsh-language strings double-fetching across two languages.

What I saw: siopypentan.co.uk weighs 926 KB on first paint (mobile). The Shopify Sans font stack ships full Latin + Welsh extended ranges. Product images load full-resolution upfront. The dual-language interface (Cymraeg/English) double-fetches strings. The mobile Largest Contentful Paint is well over 3 seconds on a Carmarthen 4G handset.
What the rebuild does: Astro static rebuild with EB Garamond + Inter subset for Welsh-language diacritics only (ŵ, ŷ, ô, etc.). Hero photo and category images compressed to mozjpeg q=78 + width-adaptive. First paint under 1.5 seconds mobile, hero readable in the first second.

No Store schema, no opening hours markup, no JSON-LD anywhere on the site.

What I saw: A view-source of siopypentan.co.uk shows the Shopify default Organization block only. No Store / LocalBusiness JSON-LD with the Carmarthen address, no openingHours markup, no AggregateRating, no FAQPage block. Google's Search ranking for "Welsh gift shop Carmarthen" surfaces tourism listings and AbeBooks before the shop's own site. The sister shop on Cowell Street in Llanelli is also invisible to schema-aware queries.
What the rebuild does: Full Store + LocalBusiness JSON-LD on every page with both addresses (Carmarthen + Llanelli), opening hours, telephone in E.164, busnes@ypentan.co.uk email, and a FAQPage block covering shipping, learner-Welsh stock, lovespoon dispatch, and wholesale. The Cymraeg gift-shop query set in Wales begins citing Siop y Pentan within weeks of launch.
